March 3, 2012. Branch Warren takes the stage to the sound of a quote from Sylvester Stalone in Rocky, “it ain’t about how hard you get hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward.”
Only six months earlier Branch had torn his right quad completely off the bone. Industry journalists and bodybuilding fans worldwide had counted him out. They thought his best days were behind him. If Branch was lucky, maybe he’d be well enough to step on stage and get a courtesy clap from the crowd for giving it a good effort.
Branch had other plans. He attacked his healing and training the same way he always has. He knew he wasn’t just showing up for polite pity from the audience… Branch knew he was going to win. Everyone doubted him, but he never doubted himself. When he claimed his second Arnold Classic title that night, the story was one of the greatest comebacks in bodybuilding history. But Branch wasn’t even mildly surprised. Why? Because Branch Warren is RELENTLESS.
“It doesn’t matter what you’re doing, if you’re any kind of athlete, or pursuing a career, you are going to have setbacks. But you have to be relentless in the pursuit of your goals.”
To Branch Warren, relentless isn’t just a motivational buzzword to post on Instagram. It’s his personal philosophy; a part of who he is and what has made him such an enduring competitor in the elite ranks of pro bodybuilding.
“It doesn’t matter what you’re doing, if you’re any kind of athlete, or pursuing a career, you are going to have setbacks. But you have to be relentless in the pursuit of your goals.”, says Branch.
When Branch sets a goal for himself, he does not accept setbacks. He does not give excuses. He simply does not allow himself to be defeated. He will not stop, waver, or pause until he achieves his goal. When Branch is training, you can see it in every rep of every set of every exercise. In a sport that requires obsessive commitment to reach the pinnacle, being a champion demands a relentless mindset.
“No matter what obstacle was in my way, I was relentless in my drive to overcome it.”
“No matter what obstacle was in my way, I was relentless in my drive to overcome it.”, Branch said, when asked how he battled back from his quad tear to win his second Arnold. Will he win another one? He can if he wants to, because when you are RELENTLESS, nothing can stand in your way.
